    Garage Buddy

My roadster has a garage buddy! My daughter and I are restoring a 1966 Ranchero. My wife has graciously given up her parking spot in the garage for the project.

    Full Circle

My daughter's Ranchero rolled off the Ford assembly line on Feb 4, 1966. To celebrate its 50th birthday, here are some recent photos I took of the finished car.

Nice looking ride. I like the use of the steel wheels on the Ranchero.

    Car Show Success

My garage buddy and my roadster's garage buddy went to a car show yesterday at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston, TX. My cobra was voted as one of the "Participant Favorites." Better yet, my daughters Ranchero was honored with the Club Award, selected by the club members. They were impressed with her work on the restoration and the fact that the 50 year old car is a daily driver.

Daddy's really proud of his little girl!

For the past few months, my daughter and I have been enjoying taking our vehicles to a few car shows. On Father's Day, we had our cars in a show inside a huge church on the south side of Houston. It was surreal driving inside the building. The show was really nice - especially since we were in air conditioning.

On Monday, we were in a judged car show that was part of the July 4th festivities in Pasadena Tx. Both our cars were in the same class since they had cars categorized by decades. There were several really nice looking late-60's Chevy muscle cars, so we didn't think we'd fare that well in the judging. However, the judges must have really liked us and our cars, because my daughter's Ranchero was awarded first place, and my Cobra was awarded 2nd.

What a great country we live in where a couple of guys like the Smith brothers can start up a company producing cool kits, and a bunch of motor-heads like us can build our dream cars. And then we get to enjoy our cars with the ones we love! Belated Happy Independence Day!

That ranchero is really sharp looking!

    December surprise

I sent photos and a little article about Abby’s Ranchero to RockAuto.com about a month ago. They put it in their December newsletter! Also, the Ranchero is pictured in the email banner.

I'm not sure whether I'm more impressed by the fact your daughter was interested in restoring a car that isn't so "mainstream" or that your wife was willing to give up her spot in the garage to enable your car addiction!

Thanks, redline. I'm very blessed to have wonderful ladies in my life!

My daughter is now in college and still drives the Ranchero every day. She's home for the Christmas break now and my wife has once again given up her garage spot (temporarily) for the Ranchero.
