Can’t believe this day has come. I’ve wanted to build one of these for the better part of twenty years. Just kept getting cold feet. Well, I had a 9:00 appointment today at factory five and purchased a kit. Figure it’s going to take me two years, because I’m a shade tree mechanic at best. Hopefully my kids will get involved with part of the journey, but I’m not expecting much consistency from teenagers. Really looking forward to this journey.
“Complete kit”
Powder coat chassis
Full length coyote headers
Body cutouts
Diamond stitch seats and door cards
Coyote power steering kit
2015 IRS
GPS gauges
18” halibrand package
Wind wings
Sun visors
Wiper kit
Sway bars (front and rear no clue of I’ll use them 😮
Brake duct mesh
Battery cut off switch
Rt side roll bar (torn on this and like the breeze better too)
Roll bar grommet set(s)
Center dash support
Leather steering wheel
Trunk gas strut
IRS center section
Willwood brakes
Carbon fiber dash with glove box
Heater / defroster (I know glove box)
Gen 3 coyote installation kit
Also from factory five (but something was messed up and they could only figure out how to take my deposit on the kit and not the engine, so this ones not set in stone. Though, the other isn’t either until a few months from now)
Coyote engine and tkx trans combo
Was on the fence, but I think I gotta sell my hellcat this spring to fund this bad boy. I knew what I was getting into, but seeing the $$ on paper and knowing I’ll spend a bunch more made me really hope I have the skills to not build an expensive sh$t box. 😬
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Anything you feel I should delete, or add? What after market stuff so you consider a must have?
Thinking trunk drop, cuddly storage between seats, and lots more. Everything chrome plus the panels is getting powder coat. So, any advice on a powder coated north of Boston would also be appreciated.
Thank you all in advance. I hope I’m not too much of a pita, because I’m going to need all the advice I can get. 🙃
Tooth, (I like that) sounds like you got a great build plan in place. Yeah, look to the (RT-Russ Thompson's Drop Trunk) at least I did. You might want to consider his turn signal as well and perhaps a few other things from him and the other vendors out here. Like FFMetal.com for a firewall-forward to help accommodate the heater core a little better. Also check with Mark Reynolds @ breezeautomotive.com for a slew of goodies that Santa didn't deliver. You might also want to take a peek at these two builds if you haven't already. There's a ton more, of course, but both of them did their own PC. Check Dave's (Papa) and Jesse (Blitzboy54) build for details on self-baked powder coating. Blitz's build might give you some further ideas on the bada$$ blacked out look. Many builders do their own powder coat on the smaller (fit in the oven) parts and outsource the larger stuff. I'm sure you'll save a few bucks in the long run by doing them yourself.
Anyway, have a great time and all the best on the future build. I'll be following along as I'm still working on getting back into the build groove myself and bring my story current. I'll stop in to checkout your progress. Ride the smile wave!

Congrats! I too contemplated this for about 20 years and finally pulled the trigger this past September and expect delivery in late March. Prepping the garage and making sure I have the right tools has been my little pre-project while I wait in anticipation. Just a note, I have been ordering a few things separately as I know they will likely be backordered, i.e. wilwood brakes, side louvers, etc. I've also ordered my engine and that should be delivered to my builder around the time I get my roadster.
Good luck!

Congrats man…you made it happen
The first I’ll do is to take that picture you posted…blow it up as big as you can stand and place it where the teenagers can see it…they can do the math till driver’s permit

I was set up with Stewart for delivery, but I had this week off. It just made more sense to get her home and get sorted while I had a couple days off. Picked up a 20’ uhaul and off we went. I have two teen wage girls and a 13 year old boy. He’s the one that’s taller than me in the picture. One of his buddies is a total gearhead, so we had to bring him along. When I got there, I was more disoriented than a kid waking up in Christmas morning. The guys that handle delivery were great. Getting the kit out of the box truck was interesting at best. I had two strong buddies lined up, but one couldn’t make it. Plan was to back up the truck to my lift, but the truck was too long to fit in the space. Somehow, we managed to get it off without any issues.
After dropping off the truck, I had to run back home and bring my son to an evening baseball game. By the time I got home from the game I was exhausted. The day kicked my butt. I made an attempt to start inventory last night, but couldn’t get past box number one. I think I have an extra bag in there because it’s throwing me off. I got the upgraded koni shocks and I think that’s what’s throwing me off. Going to get back at then inventory today and hopefully get things sorted. It’s really hard to not go attack the sheet metal, but I know the inventory and organization has to come first.

congrats! welcome to the madness. you'll definitely want to do a thorough inventory to not only figure out what's missing/extra but also to familiarize yourself with the parts/names. If you aren't sure about a part, set it aside and you can usually figure it out by process of elimination when comparing to the list.
I set aside extra parts or look at the POL list, because sometimes they'll stuff extra parts in a random box if they receive parts that were backordered right before shipping your kit.
The panel on the right is used if you have a Wilwood pedal box. And yes, the bottom flange is bent the wrong direction.
EDIT: If you're desperate for a quick fix cut the incorrectly bent tab off right along the 90 degree bend then come up an inch or two above the bend on the correctly bent panel and cut it off. Lay the piece cut off of the correct one on the inside of the panel you cut the incorrectly bent flange off of and attach it with a line of rivets. It's virtually hidden and no one will ever be the wiser

Baby steps. I thought I was ready to jump right in, but then just stared at it for a while like a deer in the headlights this morning. Just panicked because I was staring with the most visible part.

Pro tip: you can drill and fit that driver's footbox outside panel but in the interest of accessibility don't make it's installation permanent until much later---like while doing the carpet.
Slow progress on the panels. Still trying to get it all sorted before powder coating. Found a few items I can’t identify. And, feel like I’m trying to find a balance between not rushing and being too picky with the panel figment. The remaining panels pet numbers are not on the list in the manual. *♂️

Lay them out so we can help you identify them. Couple of the pieces there are the radiator surround pieces that go in the nose after the body is on. Also see a couple pieces that are probably for a donor build. But can't be sure.

I’m guessing the “cockpit underside door piece will make more sense with the body on. The little ones are likely block off pieces, just not sure where. The others have me stumped.

In order:
Correct. Sill pieces that go on after the body is on. The curved part fits against the body door opening. It will be out much further than you show. The inside will end up even with the frame.
Yes, blocking plates. Top one (I think..) is for the small firewall extension on the RH side if you don't put anything through the hole. Middle is for an opening in the DS floor piece where it bends up to the transmission tunnel.
Bottom one goes where the RH fuel strap comes through into the trunk.
Pretty sure those are dash supports with cutouts for donor components. But not positive on that one. Don't recall seeing those. If I did, haven't used them.
Side pieces for the radiator surround. After the body is installed. You should have two. LH and RH. The earlier picture you posted had the bottom piece for that area.

Your looking good! Have fun. There is plenty of help here on the forum, make use of it. There are many willing to help as you've probably figured out. You should turn whatever you're taking pictures with 90 degrees. All your pictures are sideways.

Exciting to get that big engine home! I love your method of unloading the motor, I'll have to steal that trick next time I have something big in the truck.
Without boring you with what is happening to your images between your phone, computer, and the forum, if you open them in Paint, yes the Paint program from 100 years ago, and then resave them the orientation will be corrected.
Was feeling good about getting the aluminum to the powder coater this morning, then stumbled a bit with the front suspension. Isn’t that one of the east parts of the build?
After getting the lower control arm bolts in I noticed one of the Uca’s would thread with either ball joint and the other wouldn’t accept either past a turn or two. There seemed to be weld spatter or something wonky with the threads on one of them. Then, I can’t get the snap ring into the groove on the koni double adjustable shocks, then assumed the gold bolts went with the gold nuts to attach the uca’s, then walked away for lunch. Going to go see if I can figure some of it out after lunch.

Everything is just finger tight, with the exception of the ball joint. Just hoping that someone looks at this to be sure I haven’t messed something up yet.
FYI, several other builders have noted that they needed to take a rotary wire brush (or similar) to those threads to knock powdercoating and whatnot out.
So, here's the official answer from KONI regarding the snap ring on the double adjustable coil overs.
Robert,
The snap ring for the upper spring retainer isn’t really needed for the 8212 shocks it as it just holds it against the upper eye when the car is jacked up and off the ground. It is only affected if the spring is too short and falls away from the seat. For the standard upper seats we use on 8212s, there isn’t a provision for a snap ring but again it’s fine as there’s usually enough preload that it doesn’t matter. It was really there for the 30-series shocks that Factory Five used which are flatter in that area of the 30 series eye attachment. If you really want to put a clip in that area, a spiral lock type clip would work. Looking at the specs for the seat, the following would be alternates that would get rid of the tangs that are interfering with fitting into the 30 series upper spring seat, with the 8212 eyelet. https://www.mcmaster.com/92602A250/ (spring steel, cheaper as it’s a pack of 5 but will rust) https://www.mcmaster.com/93427A250/ (stainless steel)
The simplest answer though is to just leave the ring off as it will be fine in use on the vehicle.
Left and right side front suspension finger tight. I had some weld splatter or something on the threads of one of my uca’s and ff sent me a replacement. The replacement threaded like butter. I used the wonky one to do the “mod”. Cut a bit off the sleeve and threaded end, but can’t get anything to thread into the sleeves that I modified. I have a tap set coming from Amazon today. If I can get those to a point where they’re ok, then I might swap them out to make alignment easier down the road. I “chased” the holes on the rear end, now I have to put it together. I feel like “chasing” those holes was the easiest thing I’ve done so far. Othered felt it was difficult. On the other hand, everything that is supposed to be easy has thrown me for a loop. Go figure.
Summer in New England is amazing and the only time I want to live here. Because of that, I haven’t devoted much time to this yet. Once the kids are in school and the boat comes out of the water, I’ll have more time to dig in here.
I guess this was karma for thinking chasing the holes on the diff was easy. I have to go wash my mouth out with soap from the words I may have used when drilling out these holes. Felt like I was off center going through, so hopefully that isn’t a problem down the road.
Got the ears off, and holes drilled. Going to mount the center section, but I’m missing enough odds and ends that I’ll have to pack up the rear end stuff and put it on hold after that.
Making baby steps with the little time I’ve had this summer. Teenagers, and sports has been a big task this summer. But, having a blast with the fam. Back ordered, missing, ordered wrong stuff, and lack of time has me jumping around the build a bit. I’m feeling like tasks others seem to have an easy time with kick my butt, and tasks others struggle with go smoothly. It’s been humbling for the most part, especially the organization. I though I had the boxes sorted and organized well.
Baby steps are still progress! I learned if I can even spend as little as 15 min per day, progress adds up over time. Unless you're in a rush, the bits of time you can steal away here and there still make a real difference over the weeks and months.
