    Here's something different!

My friend Mike Lewin and I have autocrossed together for years. He's heading into something this weekend that I've never seen anyone do with a Factory Five---Ice Racing!

Sure, why the hell not Can't wait for a full report!

I did ice racing for a few years. Lots of fun and action. But it was in a beater that I did not care about and it was a full contact sport LOL

Hmmm. First impression: this is just plain wrong. Second impression: winter version of a dirt track. third impression: i'm guessing studded tires would be involved. I recall all too well throwing studs during "spirited" winter driving... But, I bet it's a heck of a lot more fun than ice fishing.

No studs, spikes. Look closely at his tires.

A popular winter sport on frozen lakes up here in the "great white north" also done with motor cycles. Some classes of cars run no studs and that takes real skill
most of the cars are old beaters because hitting a snow bank or another car is common - it will bend up cars

Just a thought for the more experienced, could AWD be fitted to the roadster? I'm sure that would dominate the lake.

That looks seriously cool; yes a cheap pun, but it really does!! I would love to do that, although I can't see doing that in my roadster --ever!

I hope we get to see some video! Thanks for sharing Jeff.

    Regards,

    Steve

When we did it in Michigan it was time attack style, think autocross on snow.

That's what this event is, and in fact Mike is deeply involved with time attack competition (albeit in the dry!):

    PROFESSIONAL AWESOME

If you were to idle for too long you would make two new fishing holes thanks to the down turned sidepipes.

    Seriously, that looks like fun!

I drove a BMW E34 M5 beater through the winter a couple of years ago. I did a lot of travelling on remote northern snow covered roads where I had the opportunity to be a little more liberal with the far right pedal. It was an absolute blast! Nothing quite like flinging an M5 around gravel and winter roads when you don`t care about paint. I think a cobra on ice would be insanely fun!
