Absolutely amazing, Scott. Beautiful build. I've used a BUNCH of your posts as guidance in my build.
Fantastic job!! Continued prayers for remission to be your "every day" so you can enjoy the car as long as YOU want to!

Late to the party as I just discovered your build thread this morning. Congrats on the car and the new garage. I can relate as I ordered my coupe a month ago just as I broke ground on a 24x44 addition to my existing garage. The added space will double my garage space to 2100 sq. ft. total, still does not seem like enough as my Mustang restomod is still in progress. My coupe is due sometime in late August depending on Stewart's Transportation schedule. My STEM walls are up but waiting on plumbers to move a propane gas line and rough in the toilet and sink before we can backfill and compact in prep for the slab.
MK4 base kit, 2004 Mach 1 donor, 4.6L DOHC, TR-3650 5-speed, narrowed stock axle with 3.55 gears and TruTrac, PS, PB, ABS, 17" Halibrand replica wheels, started 12/2011, registered 9/2014, sold 3/1/2018.
1970 Mustang Fastback Coyote powered Boss 302 tribute. Started 10/14/16.
Gen 3 Coupe Base Kit non-donor build. Ordered 4/5/2024 to be received August 2024.

Really impressed with how quick you got it done.
    My Type 65 Coupe: Ordered May 27, 2021. Arrived November 19, 2021.
I would like to treat my gas pedal as a binary operator. It would be nice to get the cooperation of everyone in front of me.

    Brief update

I have registered for the LCS! Hotels have been reserved. (sadly too late for the reduced show rate ) and I have accepted Jeff Kleiners request to display my coupe at the FF booth. Hope to meet everyone there!

Do you know how many gallons of paint you needed to paint your car?

One gallon of the red and clear with one quart of the white. It all gets reduced when spraying.

Just got home from the London Cobra Show. Had a great time. The coupe cruised at 75-80 all the way there and all the way back. The temp was 95+ every day. Thank god for the AC! Car never overheated even with the AC on. Ran into 2 heavy rain storms on the way home. The car is almost water tight. I now know where the minor leaks are. I did have the mounting lug on the drivers side sidepipe snap off and when a potential customer was trying the coupe on for size he slipped and broke the small lexan window behind the drivers door. Sad news .... They mentioned that next year may be the last year for the show unless they can get others to take over.

Hey Scott, Congrats on having an almost water tight car! This brings back memories of the old MGB I owned in the 80s in England - it was almost water tight, which isn't great in a country where it rains a lot! I am also glad to hear the AC works. Where I live near Sacramento it gets very hot in the summer so AC is important, and I was starting to wonder if it is worth the effort of installing the AC as I am expecting I will struggle with it. So it is good to hear that it is worthwhile

IMO the coupe with side windows and no AC would be unbareable. There is no air flow and the rear window is a heat generator! The AC unit is not your DD unit. It is smaller and less powerful but it is IMO adequate. The key is to get all of the openings between the cabin and the engine bay sealed up. Getting the rear window tinted will also help. I had a quote of $600.00. I believe that was the "I don't want to touch it" quote.

Yes, 1 gallon should do the trip - depending on the quality and how well it covers. Maybe had a half a quart left. The quart of white for stripes was just barely enough - although there were a couple of small "do overs" so that used up the last few ounces.

    Scott,
Do you know what they need people to take over? Just wondering what the commitment would be, since I live in Columbus.

Received this email from the LCS this morning, hope this helps. Gary
Thank you for attending the 2024 London Cobra Show.

We hope (know) you all had a terrific time. We are glad you attended and look forward to seeing you June 22, 2025.

So much goes into the planning of the show, it is a revolving door; we are wrapping up 2024 successes and simultaneously beginning preparations for 2025.

During the Saturday evenings Gala our Vice President, Pam Beck shared a message about the future of the OCC/LCS. Both Pam and I are reducing our responsibilities and duties in 2025. It is also stated that the BOD and many volunteers can not continue the capacity of the workload it takes to put on the LCS and a sweepstakes car. Pam stated that at this time we are not saying the LCS is coming to an end, but we need new officers and volunteers to step up, take on leadership, put time, work, effort and energy into the club and show.

The potential that the show will continue is by getting new blood, energy, motivation, and hard workers. Several of you came up to us and shared your interest in helping to go forward. We have spoken to a few of you only because we know who you are, several offers were made by those who we are not that familiar with. Could you please send an email to [email protected] with your name, phone number, email, address, and area of interest? Website Manager has been taken.

Here is a partial list of my responsibilities that need to be distributed amongst people who are willing to step up and work:

Manage two websites: design & provide content.

Ticket design Program design Holiday party organize

Communication with hotel: registration, banquet, parking needs.

    First Data Big commerce

    Emails Exhibitors

Coordinate with City of London, Madison County Sheriff & MC Engineers office.

    Tracking tickets Online ticket reporting

    Taxes Banking statements

    Invoices Membership records

    Registration spreadsheets Ticket calculations

Coordinate all aspects of the sweepstakes car: purchase/build/shipping

LCS guest speakers Insurance/club & show

Here is a partial list of Pam’s responsibilities:

Registration: name badges, registration items for pick up, be present all hours.

Volunteer coordinator, find and place people

Find, secure and coordinate food trucks and band.

Prepare agenda for BOD and general meetings. Send out notices.

Write copy for email blasts & other communications Organize cruises.

Other responsibilities done by BOD and Volunteers:

    Constant Contact Facebook

    Hi Scott,
How did the Dynamat and Dynaliner do for controlling the noise and the heat?

Scott - I'm late to the party but doing some catching up today. Congratulations! Your build has helped me immensely and thanks so much for documenting it here for us all. The red looks fabulous, and I honestly couldn't imagine your car in any other color having met you (and it) in gelcoat! I am hoping that this thread now gets transitioned to a photobook of the epic adventures you have with it!

    Hi Scott,

I echo Hank's remarks. Your thread has helped me tremendously. I copied your brake/clutch reservoir setup among other things. I am continuously looking at your thread and photo albums for guidance as I move forward. Red was not a color I was thinking of, but it looks really good. You are an inspiration to all of us following along.

I appreciate your kind words! I am also glad that my thread has been a help to others. I know I would not have been able to attempt this build without the help of other build threads. One of the ways I have paid it forward.

They are a considerable help with the heat. Making sure any holes are filled/covered is also a must. IMO they help with the noise to a degree. They help eliminate squeeks, rattles and vibrations that you have with bare panels. The car "feels" tighter and more solid. As far as the noise from the sidepipes .... not so much. The driverside pipes dump right below your ear. The windows help but are just plastic. I may make some enemies here but I just don't understand complaints about noise. One of the first things that people notice about these cars is the sound when they drive up. That is the first "wow" moment. Then they build a car and it's "this is way to loud"! I can understand aftermarket pipes that give a different tone or soften the harshness of the FF pipes but the bottom line is no matter who's pipes are used these cars are loud and ear protection is a must. I have found that the Apple Airpod pro's with sound deadening work great. They will muffle the sound by 80%. I use them with my android phone so that I can hear directions. I'm not stating this to start a debate, just stating my opinion.

Great point around liking the car because it's noisy and then complaining about the noise. I have Air Pod pros with noise cancellation - I use them on flights when I have screaming babies near me! I will be sure to buy a set for my wife as I don't think she will like the car very much and maybe this will help.

I chose to replace it with a much larger battery which required a new battery box also. This battery has 1150 CCA so it should do a lot better with hot starting.
Don’t know if this would apply or not.

I owned and flew a Beech A36 Bonanza for 10 years and 500 or so hours. The big bore Continental IO-550 was notorious for being difficult to “hot start”.

Some very smart people studied the issue and determined that it was due to vapor lock. The fuel in the mechanical fuel pump and in the lines close to the engine would get hot and “boil” in the line (for lack of a better description) causing vapor lock and difficult starting, many times draining batteries.

The solution was found to be running the electric fuel pump for +/- a minute with the mixture control in “idle cut-off” before attempting a “hot start” in an effort to circulate cool fuel through the lines and getting liquid fuel as close the the injector spider as possible before startup. After that it was like a normal cold start.

    It worked on my Bo.

I am not familiar with the Holley Sniper injection system enough to know where the return line is located in the system, or whether a similar procedure could be used on the coupe.

    Good luck,

    Steve

On my Sniper setup I have an intank electric fuel pump. On start the fuel pump starts and after a 7 second delay the engine turns over. There is a return line from the sniper to the fuel tank. It's doing what you describe. I thank you for your suggestion. At this point I will listen to any suggestions given. My thoughts are 1: a timing issue. 2: A starter issue. It has never not started but I really want to do something to address it.

Your car looks great. 1. What type of material (vinyl) did you use for the dash; and where did you buy it? 2. What was the purpose of the foam on the dash?

NY state requires a padded dash. The marine vinyl alone would have satisfied the state. I added the foam just for more "protection" in an accident. If I did it over (and I might) I would just use the vinyl. The vinyl is Marine vinyl that I purchased at a local "Joann" fabric store.

I don't think I could overstate how good that looks, although I am pretty biased. Is that Ford Vermillion Red and GM Arctic White?
