    Wire terminals

    Does anyone have any idea where I can find some wire terminals? I need 4 female ecu terminals and 4 femal terminals for the bulk engine harness. I can't seem to find any real info on where to buy them or what size they really even are.

    Note: Found the answer see later posts.

    This is for 02-05 wiring harness.

    A few options:

    1. Pull some terminals from the ECU you do not need then move them over. To do this you need to pry up a little locking tab. It's very small and hard to figure out if you haven't done it before. PM me if you need help with that.
    2. Contact Brian at iWire and see if he has some and will sell them
    3. Call the dealer. For some reason, dealers are a real crap shoot when it comes to electric terminals. It isn't something they sell much of so a lot of times the part isn't even available, or they only have it as part of a "wiring repair kit which is extremely expensive and something only a shop would purchase .

    I want to make my own 4 wires for avcs sensors so I need new terminals cause I want it to be a single wire no splice. I have a terminal tool and have mastered it well .

    You need to be carefull with ecu terminals they are a pita, trust me I've crimped so many of them and avcs is always fun to get working. Give Brian at iWire a call tell him Robert told you to call.

    Hey guys,

    Unfortunately we are not to sell the ECU pins per the agreement we have with the company that sells them to us. I believe you can get free samples from the manufacturer (Touchstone may have done this?) which would probably be enough for most projects.

    Sad day but I may be finding what we need guys! Been looking all weekend and had summed it down to a few things I still need to find the ECU connectors. But I'm going to test a few connectors and look more in depth to find some part numbers If the have them... Post what ends up working once I find what we actually need.

    http://www.corsa-technic.com/item.php?item_id=673 -->> this looks like the connector found in the engine bay minuse a few pins that the AVCS sensors wires are in. So I think the pins listed in this link is what we would need.

    Pins needed for female engine harness are--> Sumitomo DL-SL-HX090-S

    http://www.corsa-technic.com/item.ph...ategory_id=105 ---> looks close to the body harness to the engine harness. Not the same, So I think the pins listed in this link is what we would need.

    Maybe these guys can help you out. On the plus side for you, the American dollar is very strong compared to the Canadian dollar so it'll likely end up being fairly inexpensive for you

    I want to know more about the terminals though. I just think its silly to charge $200 for 4 wires with .25cent connectors on them. Maybe if it was wired for me it would be worth it, but I can read the wiring diagrams just fine myself and have done so already, I rather not give $200 for 4 wires.

    So the ecu pins say AMP 1 on them so its a tyco/amp/TE terminal it should be 316836-1 honda guys also use them. http://www.onlinecomponents.com/te-c...tml?p=10358112

    I got my order in for the ecu and the engine connectors. I will confirm here once I get them and can confirm its the right number needed. I had to order 100pins for the ECU and 100pins for the Engine harness connectors, so if you need any let me know I will have plenty. Im 99% sure the engine harness connectors are correct and about 80% sure on the ECU so I will confirm in a week or so since some are coming from Japan. I rather order plenty so I can get other people pins when needed.

    In summery
    ECU = Tyco/AMP
    Engine = Sumitomo

    Glad you got it all sorted. I was just going to suggest that you go to a GM dealer and ask to look through their terminal box. They're supposed to have on hand then entire kit with all terminals, with everything from Delphi, to Tyco, Sumitomo, Yazaki, etc.

    Just match them up and write down the part number. Sometimes they'll sell them, other times they're already paid for by the service department under 'shop supplies'. Depends on the dealer.

    Just as an update the terminals I ordered were correct. So if anyone needs ECU or engine pins lets me know I have plenty, but if you want to order your own use the following numbers. Most every engine connector on the harness is made by sumitomo. So if you need the actually engine connector look through their catalog. I see sites selling stuff as "subaru specific pins and connectors straight from japan" . They are charging as much as $5 a pin and $20 a connector. You can get them much cheaper if you find the part number and not look at it as Subaru specific.

    ECU--316836-1 amp
    Engine harness-- small HX090 sumitomo

    This is great. On my first 818 I opened the ECU and soldered wires to the back side of the connector.
    Do you have or know where to get the tool for removing pins from the ECU connectors.

    There is 2 different size pins in my ECU and you only have one number?

    Glad you asked because I forgot to post. This is for 02-05 wiring harness. I can try to help you track down what you need though if needed. Didn't take too long. As for pin extractors I got them from napa links are below. They work on every connector in my harness.

    http://www.napaonline.com/p/NW_725168 <--- Smaller style worked on every pin from the ECU to ABS to larger style. If you only buy one buy this one. Best tool I could find much better then the multi pin tools has awesome leverage length and very thin.

    Those do look like AMP/TYCO connectors. I have 5 connectors though not 4. So Its not the same design. Pins look the same as what I have but without close up pictures of the pins I can't help to much. If you send me some close ups I can help better

    I did indeed do this. They were exact replacements and the datasheets gave part numbers for the crimp pins, bought from (DigiKey $10-20 for a hundred or so)

    That's a little scary...

    There is a big tab on the ECU connector that needs to be pried up before you can remove the pins. Then use a tool, pick, flatten end of paper clip to remove each pin.

    Opening up the ECU box was not scary at all. Four small screws.

    Do you know how many hours I spent looking for pins and removal tools. Then hours trying to get the pins out without success.

    Ohh those little doors are a pain when you don't know what they are for or how they work! The 1st time I took one out when I was making a harness for my MR2 it ended up broken... Learned my lesson, on the 818 wiring was much more easy and not full of broken wires since I knew what I was doing yay! I have this all included in my wiring guide I plan to publish on my site and build thread once I can confirm its all working 100%.

    I meant soldering to the back of the ecu connector. I have multiple issues with it relating to shorts, joint quality, wire strain relief, routing, ease of replacing the ecu, ect. But if your confident in your wiring and soldering skills and they look like this not this then you'll probably be fine.
